Die Schulreiterin : Lustspiel in 1 Akt, ca. 1885-1895.

Materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Berlin: Eduard Bloch, printing date 1885; Eduard Bloch's Theater-Correspondenz No. 188), which has been annotated as a prompt-book; and 3 handwritten role books, for the following parts: Lucie, Baronesse von Nietsch; Cäsar, Baron von Wedding; and Otto, Kammerdiener. (The play has a fourth role: Engelhard von Meiningshausen, Gutsbesitzer.) The page with the list of characters in the published copy gives the cast of the play as performed at the Residenz-Theater in Berlin. The book also contains a preface by the publisher Eduard Bloch in which he mentions that the play was performed there for the 100th time. All of the items are labeled as the property of Theodor Bloch, who ran a theater lending library in Philadelphia. Three names of cast members noted on the front of the role books (Fräulein Eckelmann, Herr L'Allemand, and Herr Schröder) are familiar from the casts of other German-language plays performed in Philadelphia and together suggest that the items were used in a performance around fall 1890. One other name of an actress (Frl. Walburg) could not be placed, and might reflect another cast later in the 1890s. (The collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills contain no reference to this play.)
